Candidate for Alaska State House - Turnagain, West Spenard, Jewel Lake, Sand Lake
Nick Moe is a lifelong Alaskan with a deep commitment to his community. Born and raised in Anchorage, he attended West and East Anchorage High Schools and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Nick has spent the last two decades working tirelessly to give Alaskans a voice, serving on the boards of five non-profit organizations, and is currently a member of the Anchorage School District Language Immersion Working Group and MIR, a non-profit supporting the Russian language immersion program.
As a father of two Turnagain Elementary School students, Nick is deeply concerned by the state of our education system, including teacher retention, class sizes, high drop-out rates, and low test scores. When the legislature chose special interests over long-term education funding, it motivated him to run for the Alaska State House. He has the resume, experience, and skills to be an effective legislator on day one in office. Nick is running because he believes that Alaskans deserve a better deal for their natural resources. We need a government that puts the people's interests first and tackles the critical issues facing our state, including the looming energy crisis, budget shortfalls, and the out-migration of working families.
Uphold the Rule of Law
You don’t get to pick and choose which laws to follow, nor should our legislature. If a law isn't working, let's work together to change it! I support current laws of a 90-day legislative session, a statutory Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), and school bond debt reimbursement - which will also help lower property taxes.
Transparency and Accountability
I am committed to ensuring our government operates with a robust public process and to the values of transparency and accountability. As your candidate or elected official, I am always available to answer your questions, hear your opinions, and assist you in navigating state government. Call or text anytime! (907) 947-8777
Self-Reliance
Alaska's challenges are often related to the dependence we have on outside energy, food, and workforce. I firmly believe that we should invest in Alaskans. I support expanding Alaska-grown food production, using Alaska natural gas and renewable energy to address the Cook Inlet energy crisis, and ensuring that Alaskans are given priority in job opportunities. Our state government and university system should not be hiring out-of-state workers and covering their travel expenses for positions that can be filled locally. If we lack the necessary human resources, let's invest in training and education to equip Alaskans with the skills they need for these jobs!
Protect Our Salmon
Our salmon are a vital part of Alaska's culture and way of life. As an avid fisherman, I am deeply committed to protecting them. I will work to ban the destructive practice of factory trawling, develop our oil, gas, and mining resources responsibly and for the maximum benefit of the people, and reject any policies that deplete salmon populations in the Kenai and Susitna rivers.
Protect Alaskan's Right to Privacy
The majority of Alaskans support maintaining access to the full scope of reproductive healthcare. Nick is committed to protecting this right. Alaskans should have the choice to make their own decisions about their bodies and health.
